GURUGRAM: A local businessman’s bodyguard has been arrested for allegedly stalking, molesting and threatening to kill a 22-year-old woman, who lived in his building.

According to police, the woman lives with her husband — a doctor — in the flat of an upscale condominium on MG Road. While the couple live on the fourth floor, the bodyguard lived on the ground floor on rent.

The woman has claimed that the bodyguard followed her inside the lift on Tuesday night. He allegedly started abusing and molesting her. However, she got out of the lift on the fourth floor and raised an alarm. He fished out his revolver and threatened to kill her before fleeing.

An FIR was registered against 31-year-old Rakesh Kumar, a resident of Samaspur village in Jhajjar, Haryana, on Thursday after which police arrested him. They also seized his arms licence and revolver. On Friday, Kumar was produced in a city court and sent to judicial custody.

According to the woman, Kumar had been stalking her for the past several days and around 9pm on Tuesday, when she took the lift to her flat, he confronted her.

“Kumar was always carrying a revolver which was with him when he entered the lift. Since only the two of us were inside the lift, he started molesting me and using abusive language. When the lift door opened on the fourth floor, I got out and raised an alarm. He fished out his revolver and threatened to kill me. Before fleeing, he also said that he was already at my flat’s door and would soon enter my flat. I entered my flat and locked it. My husband was not at home at the time. On Thursday, when my husband returned, I told him what had happened and moved police,” the woman said.

The FIR was registered under IPC sections 354 (molestation), 354-D (stalking), 503 (criminal intimidation), 509 (insult of modesty of a woman) and sections 25-54-59 of the Arms Act at the Sector 29 police station.

According to police, the bodyguard was working for a businessman who is a resident of Alipur village. “We have seized Kumar’s arms licence and his .32-bore revolver. He has already confessed to the crime and was sent to judicial custody. The probe is on,” said Karan Goyal, ACP (DLF).
