Three officials in the Keshav Puram zone of the North Delhi Municipal Corporation have been placed under suspension following the building collapse in the area on Wednesday. The corporation has also issued orders for resurvey to identify within seven days all unsafe buildings in its jurisdiction.
Found nothing wrong
A corporation spokesperson had said on Wednesday that staff of the Maintenance Department had inspected the building about 20 days ago, as part of its annual pre-monsoon survey to identify dangerous buildings, but had not found anything wrong with the structure.
The civic body’s report stated that in Keshav Puram zone, none of the 1,17,541 buildings surveyed were found to be dangerous.
The order for resurvey states, “On account of recent rain and collapse of one building in Sawan Park, there may be a number of dangerous houses in North civic body area...Any laxity/misreporting in this regard shall be viewed very seriously and field staff concerned shall be held personally responsible.”
Suspended officials
The suspended officials include Rajesh Sharma, Executive Engineer; Abhay Jain, Assistant Engineer (Civil); and Kapil Yadav, a Junior Engineer employed on contract basis.
