BHUBANESWAR: The Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings has announced the world's best universities for 2019, and IIT Bhubaneswar and NIT Rourkela feature in the band of 601-800 out of 1,258 institutions.
The parameters on which the institutions were judged broadly covered teaching, research, citations, industry income, and international outreach. "Within India, IIT Bhubaneswar ranked 10th out of 49 institutions considered for the rankings," said IIT Bhubaneswar director R V Rajakumar. "We have engaged in initiatives to raise the standards of the institute on all fronts. A lot more is needed to make a significant global impact," he added.
Prakash Javadekar, Union HRD minister, congratulated IIT Bhubaneswar on Twitter for making its first entry in the Rankings. NIT Rourkela has also found a place in the 601-800 category. KIIT, a deemed to be university, also appeared on the Rankings, published on Wednesday. It secured a position in the 1001+ category. Expressing happiness, Achyuta Samanta, founder of KIIT and KISS, said, "I congratulate all the staff, student and well-wishers and hope they will keep up the good work."
Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, topped among the Indian institutes that received a rank.
