NEW DELHI: On Friday, the equity markets opened in the green but could not hold on to the gains in early trading.
The 30-share BSE
Sensex gained more than 120 points to open at 36,452.74. However, the index erased most of the gains and at 9.28 am, it was back to the previous closing levels.
The broader 50-share NSE
Nifty followed suit as the index gained more than 40 points to open above the key 11,000-mark but had slipped in to the red in early trading.
The markets have been volatile with investors wary of a possible
liquidity crunch in the markets.
In global markets however, shares in Asia inched higher on Friday, following gains on Wall Street overnight after news of robust US economic growth, with the chairman of the Federal Reserve saying the United States does not face a large chance of near-term recession.
