“Telangana State was liberated from Nizam’s rule through the Operation Polo by the Indian government on September 17th, 1948, and that was being treated as a golden movement in the history of Telangana. The Telangana Liberation Day is not being celebrated in Telangana State as it was betrayal day for some people. I wanted to ask the TRS on whose side it is? On the side of the people who want to celebrate it or on the side of others?” Smriti Irani asked while addressing the ‘Mahila Shankharavam’ programme held here town on Thursday.
The programme organised in the mandal headquarters was attended by a large number of women.
She did not mince words in coming down heavily against the TRS stating that it had cheated the people of Telangana in implementation of Central schemes.
Central schemes
“The government of India has sanctioned more than two lakh houses and what happened to them? Why is the government denying houses to the poor? Why are the housing funds being diverted to other schemes? Why is the State not accepting the universal health scheme — Ayushman Bharat — which will extend a benefit of ₹ 5 lakh health cover to each family?” asked the Union Minister.
Many schemes pertaining to farmers were not bring implemented by the State government, including farmers’ insurance schemes and Fasal Bima Yojana, she said.
“We have concern for the development of Telangana and that was why ₹ 2.03 lakh crore was extended to the State under 14th Finance Commission whereas it was only ₹15,000 crore under 13th Finance Commission. This shows our commitment towards Telangana,” Ms. Smriti Irani said adding that they had extended assistance to Mission Bhagiratha, for national highways in the state and power supply. She asked why there was no woman in Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao’s cabinet.
