The new arrangement brings a smile to all stakeholders

The recently-restored two-way traffic arrangement on a section of NSC Bose Road is considered very road-user friendly, not least because many bus commuters are now spared a trudge towards the Broadway terminus.

In the last five years, when a one-way traffic arrangement was in place between the Madras High Court premises and the Broadway bus terminus on NSC Bose Road to facilitate Metro Rail work, a section of bus commuters, mostly constituted by visitors to the High Court, would head to the bus terminus in Broadway to board their route numbers.

With the old boarding point near Parry’s Corner having been restored, these commuters are benefited by the new arrangement. Now, motorists, including MTC bus drivers pulling out of the Broadway terminus, are allowed to proceed straight towards Parry’s Corner.

Earlier, MTC bus drivers hit this section after taking a short detour.

Motorists coming from the RBI subway can take a ‘left’ turn to drive down NSC Bose Road and reach Broadway junction. Parking of vehicles on a section of NSC Bose Road, towards Broadway, is allowed just as it used to be, prior to the beginning of Metro Rail work.

“Following the opening up of NSC Bose Road for two-way traffic, traffic congestion at the Broadway junction, especially during rush hour when office goers and petitioners to the court use the stretch to board buses, has eased,” says S. Prasad, a motorist from Triplicane.

The new arrangement has helped motorists coming from North Beach Lane along the coastline to reach Anna Salai via Fort railway station.

Earlier, due to Metro Rail work, motorists coming from North Beach Lane, which connects big northern neighbourhoods like Royapuram, Tondiarpet, Washermenpet, Kasimedu and Ennore with central parts of the city via Broadway, had to use the narrow dilapidated one-way lane above the RBI subway to reach Anna Salai.

In 2013, Metro Rail work was started around Broadway junction, including Government Law College premises, which is located at the intersection of NSC Bose Road and Broadway.

Metro Rail work on NSC Bose Road is part of the Metro Rail work at Central railway station connecting Park Town with CMBT, Koyambedu. Most of the Metro Rail work, including construction of an underground station, has been completed at the intersection of NSC Bose Road and Broadway.
