Toyota 4Runner Nightshade Special Edition Embraces The Blackout Trend

The Texas State Fair has been transformed into a mini auto show and a number of automakers use the event to introduce new special editions. The latest is Toyota is which has unveiled the 4Runner Nightshade special edition and the new SX Packages for the Tacoma and Tundra.

Starting with the 4Runner, the Nightshade special edition is based on the Limited variant and features its “own vibe.” Styling changes are relatively minor, but the model has a black chrome grille, a black chrome exhaust and 20-inch wheels with a black finish. Black accents can also be found on the mirrors, door handles and window surrounds.

The black theme continues in the cabin as there’s black trim on the steering wheel, center console and door panels. There doesn’t appear to be any other changes, but the model comes nicely equipped with heated / ventilated leather front seats, a power moonroof and a JBL premium audio system.

The 4Runner Nightshade special edition is currently available at dealerships and the package adds $1,740 to the $43,225 sticker price. The special edition is available with rear- or four-wheel drive and all models are powered by a 4.0-liter six-cylinder engine that develops 270 hp (201 kW / 273 PS) and 278 lb-ft (376 Nm) of torque.

Moving on, there’s a new SX Package for 2019 Tacoma SR models. Costing $560, the package adds an assortment of black components including a grille, door handles and mirror caps. The package also includes tinted headlights, black badges and 16-inch matte black wheels.

The SX Package for the Tunda SR5 Double Cab is slightly different as the model eschews the blackout treatment for additional body-color components. The $1,630 package also includes more comfortable front seats and 18-inch alloy wheels with a black finish.
