Poovachal Khader. The function was inaugurated by revenue minister E Chandrasekharan on Thursday and was presided over by veteran lyricist Perumpuzha Gopalakrishnan.
After presenting the award to Khader, E Chandrasekharan said that the art, literature and cultural leaders play a major role in molding the society.
“The music of Devarajan is an integral part of life of every single Malayali. Through his very popular song ‘Ponnarivaal ambiliyil kanneriyunoole’ he had captured the minds of comrades and theatre lovers,” said Chandrasekharan. He also congratulated the jury for selecting Khader whom he said is the one who truly deserves the award.
Gopalakrishanan said that the organizers are happy to present the 9th edition of the award instituted by G Devarajan Sakthigadha team to the most deserving candidate. “Devarajan is a master of music and Khader deserves this award,” said Gopalakrishnan.
The function was attended by writer Perumpadavam Sreedharan, playback singer Bhavana Radhakrishnan, deputy mayor Rakhi Ravikumar, playback singer G Sreeram among others.
In the morning, musicians and fans of Devarajan offered floral tribute at the bust of Devarajan at Manaveeyam Veedhi.
