MOHALI:A 20-year-old girl, who is pursuing studies in a private college in
Mohali, has
alleged police inaction in a
stalking case. She alleged that more than nine months have passed but the cops are yet to arrest the
accused. The victim also alleged that she was still being harassed even after the case had been registered.
It was in December 2017, when a case had been registered under Sections 354-D (stalking), 506 (criminal intimidation), 509 (act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) besides Sections 67 and 67-A (publishing or transmitting of material containing sexually explicit act) of the Information Technology Act against accused Sushant Kumar, a native of Patna.
A few months back the case was transferred to the
state cyber cell but nothing has been done so far, the girl claimed.
She said that, “The accused had created a fake Facebook account in her name and was still using it. But the cops have failed to arrest him.” The victim further said that she was seeking justice through her Twitter profile. She has posted around 200 messages and even tagged Punjab and Mohali police, but it has failed to move them.
Both victim and the accused used to study together in Patna and were in a relationship for a year. Later, however, they ended the relationship over some issues. She said after their break up the accused started calling her and even sent messages in a bid to pressurize her for marriage. However, the victim refused to marry her. By that time, she had moved to Mohali.
Later, the accused allegedly made her fake Facebook profile and started contacting her relatives and friends and even shared with them her obscene videos and threatened her with dire consequences. Then in November, she moved a complaint regarding the incident with the Mohali police and in December a case was registered on her complaint at the Mataur police station.
She alleged that, “The accused has not been arrested till now. More than 9 months have passed since the FIR was lodged. Earlier, the Mohali police and now the state cyber cell is not taking any step to arrest the accused.”
Meanwhile, station house officer (SHO), cyber-crime unit, Punjab, Samarpal Singh did not respond after attempts were made to contact him.
