Thiruvananthapuram: IT firm Tech Mahindra, which has announced its decision to open office in
Technopark, signed a lease agreement on Monday.
K V R Subramanyam, head-infrastructure, Tech Mahindra and Technopark CEO Hrishikesh Nair signed the lease agreement to set up office at Ganga building in the phase III campus.
The company will set up a 12,000 square feet office in Ganga building. With Tech Mahindra’s arrival, the state can boast of having six IT majors, including TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Oracle and Cognizant.
Tech Mahindra’s entry to the IT park was fuelled by the decision of global automobile giant Nissan to start its digital hub here. Another Japanese firm Fujitsu is expected to follow Nissan’s footsteps to start operations at Technopark. A delegation of officials from Fujitsu had conducted discussions with Technopark officials recently in this regard. Both Tech Mahindra and Fujitsu are technology suppliers of Nissan.
Industry sources said that arrival of Nissan would spur growth of IT in the state. Nissan has signed an MoU with government to start global digital hub in the state by June end. The state government has allotted 33 acres at Technocity for works under first phase. The hub will focus on building new-age digital technologies to enhance customer experience, product development, connectivity and security for autonomous and electric vehicles.
Already helmed by a Keralite – Anthony Thomas, who is the chief information officer of Nissan Motors, the company has appointed Thiruvananthapuram-native Suja Chandy as managing director for Nissan Digital India.
Meanwhile, work for Taurus Downtown Technopark is set for launch. The first phase would cover around 38 lakh square feet space in phase III campus. With the arrival of major IT firms and Downtown Technopark to provide social infrastructure, the IT park is set to witness major changes.
