Confirmed: Mercedes’ F1 Inspired Hypercar to be Called the AMG One

Mercedes-Benz has confirmed its forthcoming Formula 1 inspired hypercar will be called the Mercedes-AMG One.

The One, formerly referred to as the Project One, recently began real-world testing, with Mercedes putting the first test prototypes on the road in Britain a few months ago. The test cars have yet to venture out onto public roads, however, only performing test runs at a secret test location.

“In the run-up to the Paris Motor Show 2018, the performance and sports car brand announces the name of the future hypercar: Mercedes-AMG One,” Mercedes said in a statement. “The name stands for the highest automotive ambition: to bring Formula 1 hybrid technology to the road. Mercedes-AMG One will be the pinnacle of the model portfolio and the absolute top-of-the-line model– as is logically referenced by the One.”

Mercedes has also put together a new video showing off the One’s active aerodynamics, which consists of active wheel arch flaps and a two-piece active rear wing, among more. The video gives us a brief soundbite of the One’s exhaust note as well – although if you watch F1, you’ll be all too familiar with the slight rasp and turbocharged whoosh the 1.6-liter V6 produces. The F1 engine and hybrid powertrain should be making just over 1,000 hp in the production One.

Deliveries of the AMG Project One are expected to commence in late 2019 at the earliest.
