NEW DELHI: The 13 Regional Transport Offices (
RTO) would very soon start catering to autorickshaws as a part of the Delhi government’s plan to decentralise the work carried out at Burari
Vehicle Inspection Unit presently. “RTOs will cater to general public till 1pm and would have a second shift from 2pm. In this shift, renewal of permits will be done and fitness certificates to autorickshaws will be issued,” said a transport department official.
Chief minister
Arvind Kejriwal had recently given directions to decentralise and shift services such as the renewal of registration and fitness permits of autos from the Burari authority to the department’s 13 facilities spread across the city.
Kejriwal and Delhi transport minister Kailash Gahlot had carried out a surprise inspection at the RTO in Burari a few months ago. Kejriwal said the transport office, where fitness certificates are provided to autos and other commercial vehicles, has become a den of corruption and warned of strict action against those who indulge in it.
