SURAT: A woman lodged a complaint of
rape and physical
assault against a police sub-inspector (
PSI) at Chowk Bazaar police station of the city on Thursday night.
Bhavesh Girishbhai fell in love with the complainant and promised to marry her. He tried to establish physical relationship with her, but when she refused, he raped and assaulted her and also threatened of dire consequences if she complained to anyone. The accused allegedly raped her multiple times from April 20, 2016 to October 3, 2017, the woman alleged.
The complainant said she was scared of the accused, who threatened her of dire consequences and therefore had filed the complaint a year after the incident.
A police officer said, “We are investigating the case from all angles. We are also trying to find out why the woman had filed the complaint after one year.”
Police sources said it looks like a love affair gone awry. Threat angle is an important aspect in the investigation of the case because the accused happens to a be police officer, they said, adding that at present he is posted at the police headquarters in the city.
