The city police are questioning suspects regarding the attack on Imtiyaz, 43, an accused in the three-year-old murder case of Bajrang Dal activist Prashant Poojary, in Moodbidri on Monday, after a car reportedly used for the attack was traced near Surathkal. The car was found abandoned in a vacant land in Kedike near Sasihitlu, late on Monday.

It was identified based on the footage of CCTV camera installed at Moodbidri.

The police said they are questioning two persons suspected to be involved in the attack.

They are searching for other persons involved in the attack.

A group of about five persons had allegedly attacked Imtiyaz at about 6 a.m. when he opened his hotel in Gantalakatte near Moodbidri on Monday.

He is one of the 17 persons arrested in connection with the murder of Poojary in October 2015.

In a suspected retaliatory attack on the same day, Harish Shetty, 35, convener of the Bajrang Dal’s Gurupura unit, was allegedly assaulted by two men on a motorcycle in Suralpady near Bajpe-Kaikamba at about 8 p.m.

The police said they are yet to make a headway in the attack on Shetty.

Imtiyaz and Shetty are undergoing treatment at two separate private hospitals in the city.

Both have suffered fracture on their left hand. Shetty underwent operation on his hand on Tuesday, police said.
