Can The Porsche 911 GT2 RS Beat The McLaren 720S In A Straight Line?

The Porsche 911 GT2 RS needs no introduction. It used to be the fastest production car on the Nurburgring, until the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ dethroned it, and it’s a very potent track weapon.

It can sprint to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 2.9 seconds and up to 340 km/h (211 mph). Powering the German supercar is a twin-turbo 3.8-liter flat-six engine that develops 700 PS (690 hp / 515 kW) and 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) of torque.

The specs of the 911 GT2 RS are very close to those of the McLaren 720S. The Macca’s twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 is good for 720 PS (710 hp / 530 kW) and 770 Nm (568 lb-ft) of torque and it too will reach 100 km/h (62 mph) in 2.9 seconds and a top speed of 341 km/h (212 mph).

Thus, the two track-focused supercars aren’t that different, on paper at least. Nevertheless, as we all know, the McLaren 720S may have supercar specs, but it’s definitely up there with hypercars in real-world performance, and it’s definitely more powerful than advertised, with close to 800 hp at the crankshaft.

So, how do those two machines compare to each other in a 1,000-meter (0.62-mile) acceleration? Well, you’ll have to watch the short video posted right below to find out, and we’ll only tell you this: one of them was taught an important lesson.
