Among 22 finalists of the competition

Hansika Rao, a 19-year-old student pursuing a degree in the U.S., has made it to the finals of The Great Pageant Community’s Miss India Season 5 contest.

Ms. Rao has roots in the city where the Modern Cafe in the Besant Road founded by her grandfather H.T. Vasudeva Rao is still one of the most happening places.

Ms. Rao is one of the 22 finalists of the online pageant. More than 700 aspirants competed for entry into the final round.

“Women of the pageant world always inspire me. While going through the pageants on the Internet, I found TGPC’s Miss India contest impressive. I felt it suitable for me as I am studying in the U.S.,” says Ms. Rao, a student in the Mathematics and Computer Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

“I was highly thrilled by the idea of an online pageant as it provides me with a platform to take part in a beauty contest,” she adds.

Besides performing well in the academics, Ms. Rao could dance, write and design.

The pageant which has several rounds will give scores to the contestants considering the feedback they get for performances.
