GURUGRAM: Public works minister
Rao Narbir Singh had said during a rally in
Badshapur on September 3 that the construction of the Badshapur
flyover on
Sohna Road would start from September 21 and be completed before the next Assembly elections. He had even tweeted the same, saying NHAI was ready to start the work. However, the deadline passed without any progress and when TOI contacted the minister on Tuesday, he said, “No one starts work in this period. Navratri will commence from October 10 which is considered an auspicious date, so the work on the project will start then.”
NHAI, on the other hand, said that work on the project would most likely start by Diwali. “There are some encroachments, which are coming in the way of the project. We are hopeful that these encroachments will be removed soon and work will start by Diwali,” said a senior NHAI official.
In the first phase of the project, the flyover will be constructed from Subhash Chowk to Badshapur village.
“A total of 0.17 hectares of land is required for the first phase,” said an NHAI official. After the first part of the flyover is complete, travel time between Rajiv Chowk and Badshapur is expected to come down to just 8-10 minutes.
In the second phase, the flyover will be extended from Badshapur to Sohna.
Ultimately, the flyover is expected to provide an alternative to NH-8 for commuters travelling towards KMP Expressway and decongest the Delhi-Mumbai corridor. “A total of 9.074 hectares is required for the second phase,” said an NHAI official.
