The newly-appointed president of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee Mullapally Ramachandran conceded on Tuesday that the financial situation of the party in the State will be a critical issue in the upcoming Lok Sabha election.
“BJP has been pumping in money in all elections, from the panchayat level to the Lok Sabha polls. They have plenty of money, so much so that they don’t know what to do with it. CPI(M) too has access to a lot of money, with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s cosy equations with the affluent classes. But for us, it is going to be a problem,” Mr. Ramachandran told The Hindu. He said the door-to-door collection the party primarily depended on would not suffice.
Mr. Ramachandran, who has called a meeting of the UDF coalition in Thiruvanathapuram on Thursday, is confident that the heartburn caused by handing over Congress’s Rajya Sabha seat to ally Kerala Congress (Mani) is a thing of the past. He said his ties with the coalition partners would help him keep things in order.
