Popular Balabhaskar and his wife were seriously injured along with their car driver near here on Tuesday in a road accident that killed the couple's two-year-old child, police said.
The couple were driving from Thrissur after visiting temples. According to the police, the accident occurred at Pallipuram on the outskirts of the capital city as the driver could have dozed off, causing the car to crash against a wayside tree.
"When we reached the place, locals were trying to rescue the victims. We broke the windows and took out the child. We took everyone to the hospital where the child passed away," said Sub-Inspector of police Narayanan Nair.
According to sources close to the violinist, the child was born 16 years after the couple married.
Doctors said the violinist would undergo a surgery as he had injured his back. His wife Lakshmi and driver Arjun had suffered serious injuries.
The musician shot to fame when, as a 17-year-old, he composed music for a Malayalam film and and has scored music for several films.
