FALL RIVER — A city man is facing robbery charges after being apprehended shortly after leaving a bank with a large amount of cash.

According to police, Thomas Halpen, 56, of 72 Weetamoe St., was charged with unarmed robbery and witness intimidation after robbing the Fall River Municipal Credit Union at 1110 Robeson St. Friday afternoon.

Police said Halpen entered the bank around 1:05 p.m. and slipped a note reading ‘I want all the money, don’t do anything stupid, I know where you live’ to the teller.

The teller told police the suspect was carrying a large bag, wearing a stuffed animal hat, glasses and a jacket with large stripes on it.

After collecting evidence, police responded to the area of North High and Weetamoe streets where they saw a man exit a 1994 Surburban with a large duffle bag and then enter 72 Weetamoe St.

After surrounding the home, officers made entry and detained Halpen. Inside, officers located a large bag with a single $100 bill and a large trash bag containing a large amount of cash.
