Blaming police action for the death of two students during a protest in Islampur, West Bengal BJP president Dilip Ghosh on Tuesday alleged that some IPS officers were working for the Trinamool Congress government and warned that they would "not be spared".
The two students were killed when protesters clashed with the police on Thursday over recruitment of a Urdu teacher at Daribhita High School in North Dinajpur district, police had said.
The protesting students had said they did not require a Urdu teacher and demanded that teachers be recruited for science and other subjects.
North Dinajpur district superintendent of police Sumit Kumar had claimed that police did not open fire.
"Then who fired on the students? The police should answer," Ghosh said.
"Some IPS officers and police officers-in charge are working for the TMC government. The TMC government will not be there after 2021 but they (officers) have long services.
"We (BJP) will not spare them... We will remember their names. We have sharp memories," he told a public meeting at Hemtabad in North Dinajpur district.
The state BJP chief said, "The police was not seen when the miscreants had set on fire Kaliachak police station or when bombs had exploded in TMC offices".
The Kaliachak police station and about 24 vehicles were set on fire in January 2016 by protestors angry over alleged remarks by a Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha leader.
Alleging that the police are opening fire on the common people, he said the TMC has no right to continue in power in the state.
"If the police come to the village at night, the people have the right to tie them to trees", he said.
The police on Sunday arrested BJP North Dinajpur district president Shankar Chakraborty for making provocative comments against the force.
Ghosh said, "We (BJP) have seen many police forces. We have seen goonda raj in Tripura and we have uprooted it".
