GURUGRAM: A 30-year-old
woman has been arrested for allegedly killing her husband’s first wife. The two women lived together with their husband, a rickshaw-puller, and three children in Sector 9’s Devi Lal Nagar. The husband and kids were not at home when the crime was committed.
The accused has been identified as Pooja. Cops said Sanoj Paswan, originally from
Madhepura in Bihar, married Seema (25) few years ago and had three children. Four years ago, Sanoj married Pooja, who was a widow. She has two children from her earlier marriage, who live with their grandparents in Bihar. Sanoj, his two wives, and three children all lived in a rented accommodation in Devi Lal Nagar, but he took the kids to his hometown in
Bihar on September 6 for a visit and hadn’t returned.
Around 10pm on Monday, a frightened Pooja approached Ajay Kumar, the caretaker of the house they were living in, and told him that she had killed Seema in a fit of anger and had hidden the body in a gunny bag. Ajay immediately informed cops, and Pooja was arrested the same night.
Cops said an argument broke out over some matter between the two women around 9pm. Furious, Pooja allegedly hit Seema on the forehead with a pestle, and Seema lost consciousness. When Pooja realised that she had killed Seema, she was frightened and stuffed the body in a gunny bag, intending to dump it. However, she couldn’t move the body by herself, so she approached Ajay and told him about the crime.
“She was frightened when she came to me and asked for help. She told me she had murdered her husband’s first wife. I asked her to wait and informed police,” Ajay said. A police team soon arrived at the spot.
On the basis of a complaint filed by Ajay, an FIR was registered against Pooja on Monday night under sections 302 (murder) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence) of the IPC at Sector 9A police station, and Pooja was arrested.
“She has confessed to the crime. Pooja said she was disturbed with her husband’s first wife and killed her after an argument. We produced her in a city court on Tuesday, which sent her to judicial custody ,” said Sudhir Kumar, SHO of Sector 9A police station.
