MADURAI: A
court in
Srivilliputhur on Tuesday sentenced a
couple and an auto driver to life
imprisonment for the murder of their 28-year-old son.
The court sentenced Murugan, 54, his wife, Shanthi, 54, and Ramaraj, 30, who was their regular auto driver, to life imprisonment for the murder of their son, Silambaram, 28, who was an alcoholic.
Judge A Muthu Saratha imposed a fine of 10,000 on each of them.
Silambaram lived with his parents after his wife had left him as he was an alcoholic. After divorce, he stopped working and started drinking heavily.
Silambaram used to quarrel with his parents demanding money to buy liquor. The parents used to tell Ramaraj about their son’s behaviour.
On October 5, 2016, the couple and Ramraraj told Silambarasan that they were going out to meet marriage brokers to look for a bride for him. On their return, Silambarasan demanded money to buy liquor, and the father sent him along with the auto driver.
On his return, Murugan and Shanthi strangled their son with a nylon rope with the help of Ramaraj. After killing him, they carried the body to a vacant plot near Puthiyakulam tank in Rajapalayam where they burnt it after pouring petrol on it.
The Rajapalayam south police registered a case based on a complaint filed by the village administrative officer and arrested Murugan, Shanthi and Ramaraj.
