BATHINDA: A 50-foot wide breach occurred in Rajasthan Canal near Aliana village in Fazilka district on Monday evening.
Due to the breach, over 500 acres of paddy crop got submerged in Aliana, Kattianwali and Kattianwali Bodla villages. Efforts were being made to plug the breach.

The district administration has put workers at the site to speed up the process.

Sources said the villagers had put up pipes to steal water from the canal, which resulted into weakening of the bank and the breach occured. Mohinder Singh of Aliana village said water had accumulated in their fields.
