Woman shoots self with policeman brother-in-law’s revolver in Surat

SURAT: A 35-year-old woman shot self at her place of residence in Rander here on Tuesday morning using a service revolver of her brother-in-law, who is a sub inspector in city police. The woman left a one-line suicide note in Marathi claiming that she could not live without her husband, who died a year ago due to illness.

The deceased has been identified as Smita Pardhane, who was living with her brother-in-law Bharat and his family at Rander police line. She took out the service revolver that was kept in a locked cupboard and ended life at around 9.15 am. On hearing the sound of firing, the family members rushed to the room and found her severely injured. She died on the spot.

Police recovered a suicide note written by the deceased in which she claimed that she could not live without her husband Hemant, who died in September 2017. A businessman, Hemant died due to lever related ailment. After death of her husband, Pardhane was facing some mental health issues and she was taking medical treatment for that, the family members informed police.

Her 17-year-old son studies in class 12, while her seven-year-old daughter is studying in class 3.

“The revolver was kept in a locked cupboard and the deceased knew where it was kept regularly. She took out and shot self. She was under medication and anti-depressant tablets were recovered from the home,” said a police officer at Rander police station.
