Ludhiana: Police recover 500 boxes of illegal liquor, two arrested

LUDHIANA: City police on Tuesday arrested two liquor peddlers after it recovered five hundred boxes of illegal liquor from their vehicle at Neelon Canal Bridge here in Samrala. The accused were identified as Sohan Singh of Neelon Kalan and Avtar Singh of Lato Joga in Koom Kalan, both in district Ludhiana.

Giving details, senior superintendent of police, Khanna police station, Dhruv Dahiya said that during a special campaign against drug trafficking and misdemeanors, Samrala police had received information about the illicit liquor being peddled. He added that police had set up check posts at Neelon Canal Bridge in Samrala and started checking the suspected vehicles and persons.

During checking, police party saw a Tata Tempo coming from Chandigarh side and stopped it. On checking the vehicle, 500 Boxes of illicit liquor were recovered from it, which were allowed for sale in Chandigarh only.

Police officials said that both the accused were arrested immediately and a case under sections 61/1/14 of Excise Act was registered against them at Samrala Police Station.They added that further investigation in the case is on.
