Naveen Patnaik inaugurated the newly constructed
Odisha Bhawan, state’s official guest house in Chennai on Tuesday.
The six-storey complex, which has come up on the Velachery-Tambram Main Road would be the sixth official guest house of the state government outside the state.
The Chennai guest house has 16 double-bed rooms and five suits. It has also an auditorium with a capacity for 300 people. It has been constructed with an investment of nearly Rs 22 crore.
“With completion of this facility, we have created an institution which will provide a platform for engagement between Odisha and Tamil Nadu. Our States have enjoyed long and fruitful relationship,” Naveen said.
The foundation stone for the complex was laid in May 2012 in presence of the then Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalitha. Naveen also recalled his association with late J Jayalalitha, who provided land for the facility.
“Chennai is one of the most important metropolis in the country and has attracted a very large number of Odias for employment, business and various professional engagements. A large number of Tamils have also been living in Odisha. And together we are contributing to each other’s growth,” he said.
Stating that the facility which will not only provide accommodation but will also showcase Odisha’s art, culture, craft and facilitate public relations activity in the State. “This Bhawan will also be the focal point for different agencies of my government,” he said.
An official said online booking facility for the guest house will be started soon.
Odisha government has three official guest houses in New Delhi while one each at Navi Mumbai and Kolkata. In 2010, Naveen had opened the Odisha Bhawan in Mumbai, a project that was conceived in 1997.
The chief minister would also attend the third investment roadshow in Chennai on Wednesday to showcase state’s investment potential and attracting investors to the state ahead of the second Make in Odisha conclave scheduled from November 11 to 15.
Naveen during the roadshow would elaborate on advantages of doing business in Odisha like its mineral resources, land bank of 1.25 lakh acre, incentives by the state government and other infrastructures like electricity, water and connectivity
The state government expects investment opportunities from sectors like food processing, apparel, pharmaceuticals and manufacturing sectors.
