Crisis-ridden Jet Airways stops serving free food from today

The Jet Airways, which is currently facing strong financial headwinds, will stop serving in-flight free meals to flyers on its Economy class from today, September 25. Jet Airways in a statement said, “Currently fare choices in economy offers a total of five fare options — light, deal, saver, classic and flex. Jet has now unbundled fares in light and deal categories of fare choices in the economy for flights within India … as guests want the flexibility of enjoying competitive fares with the options to buy meals,” reported Times Now.

The statement further added, “Guests can choose from vegetarian and non-vegetarian meals, including hot meal options on select flights and pay using their debit/credit cards. Complimentary beverage service including tea and coffee to all guests in Economy (including light/deal fares), will continue on eligible flights.”

Crisis-ridden Jet Airways last month reported a massive loss of Rs 1,323 crore for the April-June quarter as high fuel prices, a weakening rupee and low fares battered the finances of the Naresh Goyal-led airline. This is the second consecutive quarterly loss for the airline, which had posted a profit of Rs 53.50 crore in the same quarter last year. Jet Airways connects 66 destinations, including the domestic network and overseas, operating a fleet of 123 aircraft, comprising Boeing 777-300 ERs, Airbus A330-200/300s, Boeing 737 Max 8s, Next Generation Boeing 737s and ATR 72- 500/600s.
