Unidentified men robbed an SUV by holding the driver at gunpoint in south-west Delhi’s Vasant Kunj on Sunday, the police said on Monday. The car belonged to a 42-year-old businessman.
Manish Gupta, a resident of Faridabad, who runs a business of manufacturing machines, said his driver was on the way to the airport when the incident happened. “I had returned from Germany and my driver was coming to pick me up. After he reached Mahipalpur Flyover, he stopped to relieve himself. As soon as he started the vehicle, four persons came and forced themselves in. They were carrying a countrymade pistol,” Mr. Gupta said.
The unidentified accused allegedly took control of the vehicle and drove to a secluded place near a temple in Dwarka Sector 26.
“My driver was thrashed and thrown out of the car,” he said. The driver then stopped a passer-by and requested him to let him make a call from his phone. “The passer-by did not let my driver call the police from his phone. The driver then called his brother and told him about the incident. His brother then called my father who told me everything,” Mr. Gupta said, adding that all this while, he was waiting at the airport thinking that the driver was stuck in traffic. “He had called me a while ago saying he would reach the airport in 10-15 minutes. I waited for him for an hour. I later took a cab to Dwarka Sector 26 and found him [the driver]”.
Mr. Gupta made the PCR call on the way. By the time he reached, he said, two PCR vans had also reached the spot. A case under relevant IPC Sections has been registered.
“The car has not been found and the accused are unidentified so far. The case is being investigated,” said an investigator.
