LUCKNOW: About 42 foreign students who had applied for admission to
Lucknow University have been forced to opt for other universities due to delay of more than three months in the admissions process.
This year LU had received 52 applications from foreign students. "The admission forms were submitted in May. On August 28, the approval on all the 52 applications was received from the vice-chancellor. But when students were called it was found that due to delay 42 out of 52 foreign students had taken admission in other institutes," said an LU official.
As per rules, the admissions of foreign students should be done by July along with the undergraduate admissions of other students.
The application forms are first approved by the registrar and then the final assent is given by VC. But the forms didn't reach the VC office in time as the registrar office had sent it to the admission team by mistake, where it kept lying for three months.
"Since the student cannot be admitted without VC's assent, we had to wait for the approval from his office. No message was communicated from the administrative office," said LU international student advisor
Prof Arif Ayyubi. However, the admission team denied receiving any such forms. "The admission of foreign students is directly dealt with embassy and LU's international student centre. The admission team doesn't have any role," said admission in charge
Anil Mishra.
LU vice-chancellor
SP Singh said, "The forms were approved by me as and when they were received. We will find out who delayed the process. This won't be repeated next time."
