PALANPUR: Tension gripped Dhanyawada village in Dantiwada taluka of Banaskantha on Tuesday after the bust of Dr B R Ambedkar was spotted damaged due to stone pelting by some unidentified miscreants.

As soon as the news of the bust getting damaged spread, angry Dalit community members gathered at the Ambedkar Circle and demanded immediate arrest of the miscreants.

Local Dalit activist Prakash Solanki said this disgraceful act by miscreants has hurt us deeply. “We have demanded immediate arrest of and stringent action against the miscreants who are bent on disturbing the peace,” said Solanki.

They also urged the police to install CCTV camera at the site in order to thwart more such attempts.

Solanki said that the statue was badly damaged and the nose was broken

Police sub-inspector LP Rana of Panthawada police station said “We have registered a complaint and investigation is on.”

This is second time that Ambedkar’s statute has been targeted in the district within a month. On August 27, statue of the Dalit icon was stoned in Tharad town.
