SURAT: A 35-year-old woman shot herself dead at her residence in Rander on Tuesday with the service revolver of her brother-in-law, who is a
police sub-inspector in Surat city police. The woman in her one-line suicide note written in Marathi has said that she can’t live without her husband. The woman’s husband had died a year ago due to illness.
Smita Pardhane was living with her brother-in-law Bharat and his family in Rander police lines. She picked up the revolver of Bharat from the cupboard and shot herself in the head at around 9.15am. Family members, who were present in the other room of the house, rushed to her aid on hearing the sound of firing.
Smita’s husband Hemant, a businessman, had died in September 2017 due to a liver ailment. After the death of her husband, Smita was facing mental health issues and had been taking medical treatment for the same, the family members informed police.
Smita’s 17-year-old son studies in class XII (commerce), while her seven-year-old daughter is a student of class III. “The revolver was kept in a locked cupboard and Smita knew about it. She took out the revolver and shot herself dead. She was under medication and anti-depressant tablets were recovered from the house,” said a police officer of Rander police station.
