FAIZABAD: Congress workers in Amethi are up in arms as the name of their national president Rahul Gandhi — who is the local MP — was missing from the plaque put up on the foundation stone of development projects launched for the district by deputy CM Keshav Maurya on Sunday.

Maurya launched PWD projects for five districts of Faizabad Division, including Amethi. The foundation stones unveiled in Faizabad on Saturday had names only of BJP MPs, but Rahul’s name was missing. However, names of MLAs from Amethi district were mentioned on foundation stones.

Maurya announced 119 projects costing 140 crore for Amethi, Sultanpur, Faizabad, Barabanki and Ambedkar Nagar. The foundation stones were having names of BJP MPs Varun Gandhi (Sultanpur), Lallu Singh (Adyodhya), Priyanka Rawat (Barabanki) and Hari Om Pandey (Ambedkanagar).

Although opposition MLAs from other districts, like Lalji Varma from Katehri (BSP), Ram Achal Rajbhar from Akbarpur (BSP) and Rakesh Pratap Singh from Gauriganj (SP) found place on foundation stones, the name of Congress MP Rahul Gandhi was conspicusoly missing from the foundation stones of Amethi projects.

Reacting sharply to Rahul’s missing name, former UPCC chief Nirmal Khatri said: “During Congress regime, we used to give due respect to MPs and MLAs of opposition parties by including their names on foundation stones of development projects launched by us, but BJP has shown its worst character dropping his name.”
