HYDERABAD: The 57-feet
Khairatabad Ganesh idol, accompanied by a colourful procession, steered clear of chaos and traffic menace to reach Hussainsagar and got immersed by 1pm on Sunday. The procession started around 7:20am and reached crane no. 6 on NTR Marg via Lakdikapul Road and the Secretariat. It was wrapped up within six hours. On Sunday, Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu was a prominent visitor to NTR Marg.
The idol was lifted using the 400 T modern crane (Tadano), equipped with an automatic release device. Once loaded, the crane took less than 30 minutes to immerse the idol. “The crane is one-of-its kind in south India and can lift 400 tonnes of weight,” said a staffer, who was monitoring the crane operations.
Thousands of visitors from all parts of the city had gathered on NTR Marg to have a glimpse of the idol. When the idol was loaded on to the crane the crowd was taking selfies with the idol in the background. Once the idol was loaded, loud cheers and slogans were raised. Despite the arrangements, the place was overcrowded as people wanted to see the idol from the nearest distance possible.
Due to space crunch, the crowd occupied temporary shelters erected by GHMC, police and Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB). “I have come from
Nalgonda to seek the blessings of Khairatabad Ganesh,“ said Naresh Gupta, a visitor.
