A two-year-old infant girl, who fell into a 15-ft deep borewell at Pudupalli village in Nagapattinam district, was rescued by the Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services (TNFRS) personnel on Sunday.

The girl was identified as Sivadarshini. She accidentally slipped into an open borewell while playing near her house and the passerby, who witnessed the incident, informed us, said police.
The rescue personnel, with the help of police, dug a pit parallel to the borewell and the new pit was then connected to the borewell through a horizontal tunnel. Thereafter, the girl was pulled out safely after three hours of rescue operation.
A team of doctors and senior Revenue officials were also present at the spot. The girl was immediately rushed to a nearby government hospital where she was declared out of danger.
Police have registered a case against the owner of the borewell and further investigation is on.
