Andheri is all set to get its first
air conditioned public toilet facility especially for women commuters. The toilet is equipped with a sanitary napkin vending machine and a diaper changing station. The facility is located outside Andheri railway station which is seen having a large floating population.
The AC toilet is disabled friendly as well and has a bathing facility with hot water provided. Commuters would be charged between Rs 5-10 while babies below the age of three years are free to use.
The other services include waste disposal bins, soap dispensers, air fresheners, boards highlighting health and hygiene messages as well. While the land where the toilet has come up belongs to the civic body by the toilet has been constructed using the funds of BJP MLA Ameet Satam as sanctioned by MHADA (Maharashtra Housing & Area Development Authority). "Giving women such a facility is a busy area as such is only a way of taking forward our Prime Minister Narendra Modi's dream of the Swachh Bharat Mission. My aim is to ensure that toilet facilities for women in the city are hygienic and are able to meet global standards," Satam said.
The facility has been designed by ToiLeQ Pvt. Ltd. Founder and managing director Ishita Chattopadhyay of ToiLeQ’s said, "We started work on this project around three months ago. Through such a facility we aim to introduce a modern, efficient and hygienic public, community and school toilets in urban cities with the intention of changing the perception of how one views and uses these toilet facilities."
