New Maseratis will mostly have plugs

The Alfieri, based on this concept, will arrive in 2020.

Maserati wants to grow its business in North America and believes electric vehicles are the way to make it happen.

The Italian brand plans to add four full electric models to its lineup, along with eight hybrids, to give it a stable of vehicles to compete against Tesla and coming EVs from other luxury automakers.

Alfieri: The sport coupe concept has been around for years, but the Alfieri will become reality in 2020, replacing the GranTurismo in Maserati's lineup. A cabrio version will follow in 2021.

Alfieri EV: A three-motor, all-wheel-drive electric version of the Alfieri sports coupe will debut in 2020.

Entry-level crossover: A "starter" Maserati, built on FCA's Giorgio platform, will be rear-wheel drive with hybridized powertrains. It will debut in late 2019.

Ghibli: Fresh off a minor refresh, the large sedan will be redesigned in 2021.

GranTurismo: The coupe and convertible will be dropped in 2020 from the lineup and replaced with the Alfieri.

Levante: Maserati's first crossover will get a plug-in hybrid version in late 2019 to join the Trofeo edition debuting this year. A full redesign onto the Giorgio platform is scheduled for 2022, when a full electric version of the Levante will be added.

Quattroporte: After a minor freshening in late 2019, the Quattroporte will be redesigned in 2022. It will be joined by an electric Quattroporte.
