CHANDIGARH:Two men on a motorcycle allegedly snatched a mobile phone from a pedestrian near Khuda Ali Sher on Saturday night.

Surinder Kumar, a resident of Nayagaon, said he was walking back home. When he reached near the cremation ground in Nayagaon on Khuda Ali Sher road, the two accused approached him and the pillion rider snatched his mobile phone. He said both were wearing helmets. With the help of passers-by, Kumar called the police. Cops from Sector 11 police and Nayagaon reached the spot, but argued over jurisdiction, sources said. However, the UT police later recorded the statement of Kumar and registered a case.

Police launched a search operation, but failed to catch the accused. Police obtained CCTV footage of nearby areas to secure clues.

This month 20 snatchings have been reported from different parts of the city so far. Cops said it has been noticed that snatchers have now started preferring mobile phones instead of gold chain or purses from women.

On September 21, three snatchings were reported from sectors 7 and 38 and Khuda Lahora. On September 16, snatchers targeted three persons in sectors 19, 38 and 40.
