Each beneficiary family to get free cover of ₹5 lakh; State’s corpus to stay

Health Minister C. Vijaya Baskar launched a new health cover scheme that combines the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme (CMCHIS) with the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana. The latter was launched by the Prime Minister on Sunday all over the country. The scheme provides enhanced free insurance coverage of up to ₹5 lakh per family per year to all beneficiaries.

The Minister had also signed an MoU with Government of India officials to implement the Ayushman Bharat Scheme in Association with the CMCHIS.

The CMCHIS covers 1.57 crore families and provides a coverage of ₹1 lakh per year for 1,027 procedures including ₹2 lakh per year for 154 specified procedures. The State also has a corpus fund to assure treatment of eight high-end procedures. The PMJAY, as per the Socio Economic and Caste Census-2011, is expected to benefit around 77 lakh poor and vulnerable families in Tamil Nadu.

All high-end procedures like cochlear implantation, liver, bone marrow, stem cell, renal, heart and lung transplants and auditory brainstem implant up to ₹₹25 lakh would be continued to be provided to all beneficiaries covered under the corpus fund of the CMCHIS, a release said.
