COIMBATORE: A 60-year-old estate worker was trampled to death by an elephant near his house in Nilgiris district in Tamil Nadu early Sunday, police said.

The incident occurred in the early hours when Samidas stepped out of his house in Kuttada estate on hearing the dogs barking, police said.

Suddenly, a wild elephant emerged from behind the bush and trampled him, resulting in his death, they said.

On information, police and forest department officials rushed to the spot and sent the body for postmortem.
