Kiran Bedi to review work before sending report to PMO

Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi has stressed the need to make officers accountable for maintenance of streets and cleaning drains of a particular area.

In a message after inspecting places in the Puducherry and Oulgaret Municipality limits as part of Swatchhata Hi Seva 2018, Ms. Bedi said, “Like beat constable system, where the police officer by name is accountable for crime prevention… officers should be made responsible for cleaning streets and drains.”

There was a need to fix responsibility on officers in the local administration and the Public Works departments.

Overlapping of work between the departments led to persistent blame game, she said.

Ms. Bedi intended to review all work taken up under Swatchhata on October 1 before sending a report to the Prime Minister’s Office.

On Saturday, as part of Swatchhata Hi Seva 2018 programme embarked on a tree planting exercise. She planted a sapling at Bharathi Government Higher Secondary School, Bahour and at Irulansandai.

Ms. Bedi directed the Chief Conservator of Forest to prepare a detailed programme for tree plantation, encompassing both pre-monsoon and post-monsoon periods, a release from Raj Nivas said.
