Ludhiana: Heavy rainfall lashed the city on Saturday, bringing a substantial drop in the day temperature in the city. The Met department predicts heavy rainfall for another two days. Rainfall in the city from 8.30am on Friday to 8.30am on Saturday was 1.3mm. The maximum amount of rainfall occurred in the city from 8.30am to 5.30pm on Saturday (51mm).
With rain lashing the city for the whole day on Saturday, it did impact the maximum temperature, which was recorded at 23.3C (a whopping 10 degrees below normal) — around 10.9 degrees less than that on Friday. However, there was not much difference in the minimum temperature, as it was recorded at 22.6C (normal). Relative humidity was recorded at 91% (6% above normal).
“There are chances of heavy rainfall in Ludhiana until Monday (Sept 24) afternoon, which may cross the 70mm mark, as a result of which both day and night temperatures are expected to fall,” said Chandigarh Met Department director Surender Paul. He added that the current rainfall in Ludhiana and surrounding areas was a part of the retreating monsoon.
Because of the heavy rainfall bringing down the day temperature significantly, residents enjoyed the pleasant change in the weather.
NO LEAVE FOR MC STAFF
The Municipal Corporation authorities have cancelled the leaves of their officials with immediate effect following heavy rainfall and storm warning for the next two days in the city and the region issued by the Chandigarh Met department. MC staff are also working on their usual weekend on Saturday and Sunday to be available to the public in case of any emergencies caused by the heavy rain.
