SURAT: Attacking Congress president
Rahul Gandhi for his comments about Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union minister of textiles
Smriti Irani said this is called ‘low-level of politics and not love politics’.
He (Rahul Gandhi) has lied to the nation and Parliament, she said.
Irani was in the Diamond City to inaugurate Source India
Textile Exhibition organized by Synthetic and Rayon Export Promotion Council (
SRTEPC) at Sarsana near here on Friday.
During a rally in Dungarpur in Rajasthan on Thursday, Rahul Gandhi said people were saying that the country’s watchman was a thief.
Irani told reporters, “The nation has seen low-level of politics during Parliament session when Rahul Gandhi hugged Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying that he believes in ‘love politics’. But, he (Gandhi) has come down to doing low-level of politics by attacking the Prime Minister during a public meeting in Rajasthan. This shows the values and upbringing of Rahul Gandhi. Only Rahul Gandhi has courage to stand in Parliament and lie to the nation.”
On being asked about input tax credit issue raised by power loom weaving sector, Irani said, “I have not received any representation from power loom weavers in Surat. The ITC refund issue comes under the domain of the finance ministry. If they come to me, I will definitely help the power loom weavers.”
Irani appreciated the efforts of SRTEPC office-bearers in organizing the event successfully and inviting over 150 buyers from 35 countries.
“Such textile exhibitions will help the textile sector to carve a niche for itself internationally. There are many buyers who have come to Surat for the first time and they will return with good business,” said Irani.
