In an initiative to get closer with the people, the police have launched ‘Hello Police’ in the district recently.
Speaking on the occasion at Santhana Mariamman Temple Street (ward 33) in Bodi sub-division on Saturday, Superintendent of Police V. Baskaran said that the objective of the ‘Hello Police’ was to have a platform for both the police and the people to understand each other at the respective jurisdiction.
By doing this exercise in all the wards and village panchayats once in a week and preferably on Sundays, the people may learn the possibilities of prevention of crimes by sharing information on strangers or persons who indulged in illegal activities in a locality et al, and they can alert the nearby police and ensure a tangible action.
The SP said the police would install ‘police box’ at vantage locations like “chavadi” and at landmark spots across each sub-division or wards and village panchayats where the people can drop their suggestions or complaints.
Sometimes, the people can write about the need for, say for instance, a police outpost in a locality. Such infrastructure could be organised immediately which may be of immense help to the people, he added.
The public can contact the police control room at 04546-250100. The ‘Hello Police’ can be contacted at 88709-85100. Persons can WhatsApp on the same number and send pictures or videos for more authentic information.
The Special Branch police can be reached at 04546-253101 and at 94981-01570. The SP assured that on receipt of a call from the public, the bike patrol would be there on the spot within five minutes in case of any emergency.
The villagers appreciated the efforts of the police and hoped that the crimes in their location would fall.
