Pune: Now, it has been cleared that State government will give 3 TMC (Thousand Million Cubic feet) to Pune Mahanagar Regional Development Authority (PMRDA) from Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) quota.

Vijay Shivtare, State Water Resource Minister and Shiv Sena leader announced this while speaking to mediapersons in Pune on Friday.

Shivtare said, “The State government has decided to close Khadakwasla to Phursungi canal and supply water through an underground tunnel which will save 3 TMC ft water of PMC quota which will be given to PMRDA region.”

Shivtare was in Pune to visit Ganesh mandals.

He added, “The government did micro planning of Temghar, Varasgaon, Panshet and Khadakwasla reservoirs.

We decided to make a tunnel from Khadakwasla dam, Nanded City, Vadgaon Budruk, Swargate, Pune Cantonment area, Hadapsar to Phursungi.”

He further said, “It has length of 28 km. At present, water is wasted through leakage and theft. There is also lot of water pollution due to garbage dumping in canal side and into canal. If we do close the canal, it will save PMC’s 3 TMC water which will be given to PMRDA. The State government approved the project and there are ten private companies interested in the project.”
