A day after three policemen were abducted and killed by militants, security forces on Saturday launched a massive cordon-and-search operation in Shopian and Pulwama districts of Jammu and Kashmir, the police said.

The operation was conducted in at least eight villages from early in the morning, a State police official said.

Flushing out militants

He said a joint team of the police, the Army and the Central Reserve Police Force launched the operation to flush out militants from the area.

The operation was going on when last reports came in.
