Pradesh Mahila Congress interacts with bus commuters

The Delhi Pradesh Mahila Congress on Friday launched a campaign that saw its members interact with bus commuters regarding the hike in fuel prices. The members were led by Mahila Congress chief Sharmistha Mukherjee.

Mahila Congress said video clips of the interactions will be compiled, and sent to the Centre and the Delhi government “to make them listen to the voice of the people”.

“What came out via the interactions is that people are not only suffering from price rise but also complained about lack of jobs. Many youngster travelling in buses said their degrees are useless. Some young women also raised concerns about safety while travelling in public transport,” said Ms. Mukherjee.

She said the Central excise duty on petrol has risen from ₹9.48 per litre to ₹19.48 per litre by the Modi-led Central government. “VAT on petrol has been increased by the Kejriwal-led government in Delhi from 20% to 27% and on diesel from 12.5% to 18%,” she said.
