Half Scale Porsche 917K is the Best Children’s Car Ever Built

What do you do when your dad is a rich car collector but you can’t drive yet? You convince him to buy you a motorized, half-scale replica of a supercar, obviously. 

RM Sotheby’s has put a handful of these high-end children’s cars up for sale at its various auctions, but this half-scale Porsche 917 replica from its upcoming Porsche 70th Anniversary sale is by far the coolest. While most of these children’s cars are open-top, the 917 has a roof, along with gullwing doors and a centrally-mounted replica race seat.

This kid’s car has been styled after the legendary Porsche 917, a prototype race car built by Porsche to contest the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the World Sportscar Championship. Specifically, this car was inspired by the red and white painted 917 ‘Kurzheck’ that won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1970 in the hands of Hans Hermann and Richard Attwood.

Full details on this kids car, like who built it and what’s powering it, weren’t provided by RM Sotheby’s. It appears to be electric, however, despite the two fake replica exhaust pipes sticking out of the back. Three other Porsche children’s cars that also appear to be electric, a 550 Spyder, 356 Speedster and a 904, will also be sold at the 70th Anniversary Sale. These toys aren’t cheap, with similar creations selling for over $20,000, like this half-scale Jaguar E-Type.
