Cases were booked against H Raja, national secretary of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), who has been facing the ire of the staff of Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE).

The BJP national secretary had recently made a derogatory remark against the HR&CE, while addressing a meeting at Vedasandur, in Dindigul district on Monday.
He accused them of selling lands belonging to temples to private parties. He added that such acts were equivalent to selling their family women for the sake of money. The BJP leader also alleged that the HR&CE staff were not keen on maintaining temples with adequate care.
Sources said that, such remarks triggered an outrage among the HR&CE department employees, who staged protest condemning Raja in various parts of the state.
Acting on a complaint from Ganapathy Murugan, state vice president, Tamil Nadu Thirukovil Nirvaga Paniyalar Sangam, Vedasandur police registered a case under various sections of IPC on Wednesday. In Kanniyakumari district, the HR&CE staff under the banner of Muthunila Thirukovil Paniyalar Sangam submitted petitions to Kannyakumari, Kottar, Mandaikadu and Sucheendrum police, seeking action against Raja.
Similarly, cases were registered by Pudukkottai Ganesh Nagar police and Karur town police.
Govt counsel directed to seek explanation from Thirumayam police
The Madurai bench of Madras High Court on Thursday directed the state government counsel to seek proper explanation from Thirumayam inspector of police in a plea for anticipatory bail in a case against H Raja, who was charged with passing remarks against court and TN police during Vinayagar idol procession.
The petition filed by five persons, against whom the Thirumayam police in Pudukottai district booked a case, came up for hearing before the single Judge bench. After hearing the petition, Justice GK Ilanthirayan, adjourned the case to September 27.
