Three J&K policemen were abducted and killed by militants in South Kashmir’s Shopian district. Their bodies were recovered from an orchard in the area on Friday morning. Police sources told The Indian Express that they were abducted from two villages of the district late Thursday night. A Jammu-Kashmir police spokesperson, meanwhile, added that they were gathering information from the ground. The policemen have been identified as Kulwant Singh, Nisar Ahmad and Firdous Ahmad.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Home Affairs rubbished media reports that a few SPOs have put in their papers after the latest killings. “Reports have appeared in a section of media that some SPOs in Jammu-Kashmir have resigned. The J&K police has confirmed that these reports are untrue and motivated. These reports are based on false propaganda by mischievous elements,” the ministry said in a statement.
Friday’s incident comes nearly three weeks after militants had abducted and released relatives of policemen from various places in south Kashmir.

At least eight people whose relatives worked in Jammu and Kashmir Police were abducted on the night of August 30. Hizbul Mujahideen commander Riyaz Naikoo had purportedly claimed responsibility for the abductions in a 12-minute video, issuing a three-day deadline for the release of all relatives of militants who were in police custody.
The August 30 abductions happened after the NIA arrested the second son of globally-wanted terrorist Syed Salahuddin, leader of the Hizbul Mujahideen group. Salahuddin’s son was arrested on charges of receiving secret funds.
